How to fix a slow
PC?

Fix slow PC by Cleaning the
Registry - A key function of your computer registry is
to inform the operating system of the programs, which
exist on your hard drive and also determine the programs
which should be used by the software installed on your
computer. Computer registry
problems, often arise when the registry becomes
corrupted, incomplete, or
unusable. There are basically two
methods to cleanup your computer registry, either
manually or automatically using a registry cleaning tool.
Using a registry cleaning tool is both faster and safer
and it is therefore the method we recommend.

Fix
Slow PC by Removing Spyware and Adware. Spyware
and Adware slow-down your computer,
therefore running an anti-spyware or adware
program is recommended. Many Spyware and Adware programs
can be used for free (trial version) and this can also
help choose the best program in line with your
requirements. The main features to consider
are "Ease of Download and Simplicity of Use",
"Automatic Backup", "Quality of customer Service", and also the
overall effectiveness of the
software.
Fix Slow PC by Getting Rid of
Viruses- Viruses often create spontaneous
corruption driving erratic response times, and reducing
the overall speed of the computer. Computer viruses can
also damage files, consume available memory and resources
on the hard disk. Running the latest version of your anti-virus
program is an obvious first step to eliminate a common
cause of reduced computer speed.
Fix Slow PC with Simple Housekeeping
Tasks - There
are several seemingly mundane housekeeping
tasks that can make a positive difference
to your computer's performance. Ideally you should
start by uninstalling programs that are not needed,
especially those that run at startup,
then defragmenting the hard drive is recommend as
well as using a disk cleanup utility such
as the Windows Disk Cleanup utility for PC
users. Completing these simple
steps usually leads to marginal
improvements and is of course
free.

Fix Slow PC by Stopping Self-Starting
Programs
Another simple task to improve computer
performance consists of stopping the self-starting
programs as follows:
The "Startup tab" will show a long list of
programs. This lists all the programs that are loaded
when you boot-up your PC. Usually there are many programs
that are not required to start automatically. You should
stop these programs starting automatically by unticking
the boxes next to the relevant programs. Warning! boxes which are next
to the anti-virus and other important system
components should be kept ticked at all times.
Fix Slow PC by Freeing Hard Disk
Space - If your hard disk drive is smaller than 2GB,
ensure that at least 200MB of disk space is freed up. For
larger hard disk, you must have at least 500MB of hard
disk space available. This free space is used by
temporary files placed there by computer programs, and
also enable your computer to swap files. Typically, when
Windows runs out of RAM it starts using virtual memory
and unless sufficient hard disk space has been freed-up,
the system will slow down
significantly. Running Scandisk can also help check whether
there is anything wrong with the hard disk itself. For
instance, your hard disk may be big enough but too
fragmented or some of the sectors on it may be unusable.
Running the defragmentation program is another
easy step to "energize" the PC. It also helps to
clean the redundant ".tmp" and ".bak" files.
Fix Slow PC by Improving the RAM
- Some computer programs are not well
designed as they do not release RAM resources after they
are closed. This makes less RAM available for other
software to run. If you are finding that you are running
out of RAM too easily then you should consider upgrading
your RAM. Another cheap option is to not use certain
programs at simultaneously for example movies or
photography as these programmes tend to consume
significant resources.
Fix Slow PC by Stopping the
Computer from Overheating - Faulty fans are
common and can lead to your computer
overheating. As
a result, your computer may slow-down and
even freeze. Installing a new fan is the best
solution to overcome this problem as this will increase
the flow of air through your PC and reduce your
machine's temperature.
